Fun Halloween Craft and Rosemary Goat Cheese Dip

Happy Hump Day Everyone !
As you may have previously read, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays ! The weather is beautiful, we get to decorate the house with pumpkins and bats and spiders, etc., play dress up…what’s not to like ?!?!  Well, we were at a friend’s house last week and did this fun easy Halloween craft that I had to share !  The kids LOVED it and turn it on in their room every night during storytime!

All you do is take a big mason jar and cutout the pumpkin “eyes, nose and mouth” with some heavy-duty tape.

Halloween Craft

Tape each piece onto the pumpkin’s “face” and then paint the outside of the jar with orange acrylic paint.  After it dries, remove the “eyes, nose and mouth” tape and paint them yellow.  Put a battery operated votive candle (I found them at Wal Mart in the Halloween section) in the bottom of the jar and VOILA you have a cheap, easy, fun craft that the kids can enjoy all month long :)

The Finished Product ...

Granted…the above jars are done by 3 year olds up to 8 year olds so don’t judge ;-)

And I will leave you with a couple of recipes I made over the weekend !  This is one of my favorites to take to dinner parties or serve when friends come over…we always have the ingredients (I couldn’t live without goat cheese in my fridge at all times and I grow rosemary in the garden) :

Rosemary Goat Cheese Dip

Rosemary Goat Cheese Dip :

4 ounces goat cheese

rosemary sprigs, roughly chopped

juice of 1/2 lemon

1 clove of garlic, minced

olive oil

S&P to taste

Spread the goat cheese with the back of a spoon into a pie plate until evenly coated.  In a separate bowl, combine lemon juice, rosemary and garlic.  Spread over goat cheese.  Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a little S&P.   Serve with crackers. MMM !

And now for a family favorite…my Vitamix has been feeling lonely since I got my new juicer a month ago! So after dinner the other night, I made some banana soft serve…everyone loves it when I whip out the Vitamix for dessert !  I just added 3 frozen bananas, a little vanilla extract and some cinnamon…kids and hubby loved it and I was happy they weren’t eating the sugar and fat filled ice cream they have become accustomed to over the years.  Their other favorites are peach soft serve (organic frozen peaches…yes that’s all!) and strawberry pineapple soft serve…the combinations are endless !

About Jennifer

I am the mother of 2 beautiful children, Presley-7 and Cash-5 and married to an amazing husband and father, Todd. I have always thought of myself as a healthy person...I've always loved sports, working out and eating healthy. However, looking back, I've actually had a lot of unhealthy habits. I've tried every diet out there : Low fat (How did I think eating a box of fat free snackwells cookies was healthy?), Low carb (can you say fried pork skins GROSS)... as well as a long stint with disordered eating which started in college as a way to avoid those "freshman 15".
Well it wasn't until my 30s that I realized those kind of diets are just a quick fix, not a lifestyle. I think all foods can fit into a healthy diet as long as you practice moderation. I have found that I feel and look my best when I am eating mostly plant-based foods. Not to say I won't indulge in a filet every now and again... but I find that I crave meat less and less ! I have recently been fascinated with trying new vegetarian recipes...I NEVER thought I could give up chicken...used it eat it everyday, but I actually don't miss it at all.
I am trying to pass these healthy eating habits onto my children so they can avoid some of the diseases related to unhealthy diets.

Thanks for reading and hope you have a healthy day !!!!
