Our new “Healthy” puppy – Stella Grace

Today we picked up the newest addition to our family…a sweet little 7 week old black pug named Stella!   She is so soft, sweet and playful.  Her favorite thing to do is give the kids kisses on their necks…just adorable ! And I have never heard them giggle so hard when she does it :)

We went to Three Dog Bakery in Southlake to get all her supplies…I forgot how expensive owning a puppy is ! Puppy toys ($50), food & water bowls ($30), blinged out personalized name tag ($25), crate ($75), bed ($20), organic puppy  food and treats ($40)  Not to mention the big check I wrote to the breeder for the pup !  But hearing the kids belly laugh while playing with her is PRICELESS.

We have baby showers for our friends who have babies…maybe the “puppy shower” idea will catch on ;-)

On a side note…getting my new Vitamix on Thursday…I am counting the days… please let me know if you have any favorite recipes to try out on it !

We made frozen cosmos in Kim’s Vitamix at the pool yesterday….Smartini cosmo mix (5 calories!) with vodka and ice…it was the perfect consistency.  But you have to be careful…tastes like a slurpee so they can sure sneak up on you.

Anywho….Off to bed I go…spent the weekend with the other Healthy Mamma Kim and didn’t get a whole lot of sleep ! Maybe not the best day to bring home a new puppy…I have a feeling I will be awoken a few times tonight !

I am the mother of 2 beautiful children, Presley-7 and Cash-5 and married to an amazing husband and father, Todd. I have always thought of myself as a healthy person...I've always loved sports, working out and eating healthy. However, looking back, I've actually had a lot of unhealthy habits. I've tried every diet out there : Low fat (How did I think eating a box of fat free snackwells cookies was healthy?), Low carb (can you say fried pork skins GROSS)... as well as a long stint with disordered eating which started in college as a way to avoid those "freshman 15".
Well it wasn't until my 30s that I realized those kind of diets are just a quick fix, not a lifestyle. I think all foods can fit into a healthy diet as long as you practice moderation. I have found that I feel and look my best when I am eating mostly plant-based foods. Not to say I won't indulge in a filet every now and again... but I find that I crave meat less and less ! I have recently been fascinated with trying new vegetarian recipes...I NEVER thought I could give up chicken...used it eat it everyday, but I actually don't miss it at all.
I am trying to pass these healthy eating habits onto my children so they can avoid some of the diseases related to unhealthy diets.
